On the former commercial area at Westhafen, a new residential district along the Elbe is being built in several construction phases. As the largest city in the Duchy of Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein, Geesthacht is shaped mainly by its location directly on the Elbe. The importance as an inland port that is associated with this, and the good connections to federal motorway 25, make this city, which is part of the Hamburg metropolitan region, a sustainable business location. With a solar power plant and a pumped storage plant, Geesthacht is also the largest energy location in northern Germany – and with 50 million reserves, it is also the richest city in Schleswig-Holstein. The municipal utilities provider ensures a broadband supply for industry and the population thanks to it own fibre optic network.
The city’s long tradition in research and development began with Alfred Nobel and continues to this day in the Helmholtz Centre, which is one of the most important training centres in the region and celebrates about 50 graduates each year. What’s more, one of the largest providers of modern laboratory diagnostics, LADR, is also based in Geesthacht. Numerous other service companies in the medical sector are affiliated with it.

Around 31,000 inhabitants live in the city’s eleven districts, which enjoy optimal social care through their child- and family-friendly community. With eight schools, a vocational college and integrated educational support and alternative offers, almost all educational paths are covered for children and adolescents. Privately financed flats: expected January 2025
The minimum rental period is 12 months. The tenancy agreement can then be terminated with a notice period of 3 months.
Yes, the rental agreement includes a graduated rent for the first three years. From the fourth year onwards, it switches to an index-linked rent. The rent level is determined by the price index for the cost of living for all private households in Germany as calculated by the Federal Statistical Office.
The deposit is three net cold rents (the net cold rent plus ancillary costs is shown in the rental agreement). There are no processing or agency fees.
The deposit is transferred to an account of the landlord that is protected against seizure in accordance with Section 551 (2) BGB. Alternatively, the tenant can open a separate deposit account and pledge it in favor of the landlord or provide an unlimited, directly enforceable bank guarantee from a credit institution licensed in Germany in favor of the landlord.
There are 96 parking spaces (one parking space is allocated to each apartment).
Renting a parking space is mandatory for the privately financed apartments.
Bicycle parking spaces are available in the tenants’ cellars and additionally in the bicycle rooms provided for this purpose or in corresponding areas in the basement. Further bicycle parking spaces are located next to the front door.
The keeping of pets is examined on a case-by-case basis and requires the corresponding approval of the owner.
All apartments have a storage room.
The residential complex is supplied by Stadtwerke Geesthacht – Riotainment. A corresponding contract is concluded by the tenant.
The Müller Merkle Immobilien GmbH team is responsible for letting. The property management company is responsible for signing the tenancy agreement and handing over the residential units. The contact details will be provided when the tenancy agreement is signed. The property management company is your first point of contact during the entire rental period.
